Scenario Based Question

Please provide a short reflection (no more than 250 Words each) on your initial thoughts, considerations, and/or steps you would take to mentor the student in the scenario below.

As Peer Mentors, it is your job to support and guide students through a variety of scenarios that come up throughout the first six weeks of their transition to post-secondary education. A Mentee comes to you for guidance following a situation in one of their lectures. The professor was discussing issues during a lecture surrounding diversity and access to post-secondary education. Your Mentee shares that, as far as they can tell, they are the only Black student in the class, and that the professor called on them to share their experience of getting admitted to Carleton. Your Mentee tells you that being singled out that way made them feel uncomfortable and that they felt the professor was suggesting they might not have 'earned' their admission.
