Reyhab Mohmed Patel, PhD candidate and Contract Instructor in Sociology at Carleton University, is the curator of Faisa Omer: Threading Roots, on view at the Carleton University Art Gallery (CUAG) from September 29 to December 13, 2026.

Featuring the work of Somali-Canadian photographer Faisa Omer, Threading Roots explores how identity is continually made and remade through cultural practice, family histories, and acts of remembrance. Moving between family archives, portraiture, fashion, and textiles, the exhibition reflects on cultural inheritance, belonging, and the ways home and memory are carried across distance and generations.

The exhibition launch will take place at CUAG on October 4 from 2:00–4:30 p.m. An additional exhibition event is planned for October 24, with details to be announced.

The exhibition and events are free and open to the public.
