At Carleton University, personal and academic information is considered confidential. As a result, the Student Accounts Office follows certain procedures in disclosing this type of information.
We take measures to ensure that we disclose personal and academic information only to the student to which it refers. For example, photo identification is required when dealing in person with the Student Account’s Office. In addition, we will only discuss confidential information in email format using the student’s university Cmail account.
There may be occasions where a student wishes to authorize the release of personal or academic information to a third party. On these occasions, students can submit their consent through their Carleton360 account.
The collection of personal information on application or request forms complies with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) of Ontario. In accordance with section 41 of the Act, Carleton University will only use the information in its custody or control in the following circumstances: where the individual identifies particular information and consents to its use; or for the purpose for which it was collected or a consistent purpose (i.e. a purpose which the individual might have reasonably expected).
For more information on FIPPA and how the University responds to requests, please visit Carleton’s FIPPA Website.
