The School of Journalism and Communication at Carleton University invites applications from distinguished scholars for the position of Visiting Professor of Communication and Media Studies for one term during the 2016-17 academic year. This position is open to professors who wish to spend time in a vibrant, interdisciplinary environment in order to carry out their research and teach on topics and issues that complement those of our faculty and graduate students. The School of Journalism and Communication provides office space and administrative support, a robust research setting with high quality Master’s and PhD students, contact with other professors in the School, at Carleton, and in neighbouring universities, and a stipend.

The Visiting Professor position is ideal for established academics with research leave funding, a portable research fellowship, or sabbatical. Applicants should have a record of internationally recognized published scholarship and a strong record of graduate teaching and mentorship. Preference will be given to tenured professors who already hold faculty positions at other institutions in Canada or internationally. Visiting professors are expected to actively contribute to the intellectual climate of the School, and will be asked to lead a graduate seminar on a topic of their choosing. Visiting Professors are also expected to deliver a public research presentation at the end of their appointment.

If interested, please send a one page proposal that describes the research that would be undertaken while in residence, a one-page description of a graduate seminar, an up-to-date curriculum vitae and an indication of the period in which you would like to hold the appointment (Fall term: September-December 2016; Winter term: January-April 2017).
