Biomarker Study Poster 1 Winter 2025
We are looking for participants to take part in our study: Understanding stressful experiences as a risk factor for problematic cannabis use: A longitudinal endocannabinoid biomarker study. This study aims to identify biomarkers of problematic cannabis use and risk factors for problematic use, such as early life trauma, as well as to better understand patterns of cannabis use among university students.
You may be eligible to participate in a study if you are:
- In your 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year of university at Carleton University
- Fluent in English
- Between the ages of 17 and 30 years old
Participation in this study will involve:
- A link to a quick screening questionnaire, asking a few of questions to see if you are eligible to participate (5 minutes)
- If eligible, you will be asked to attend a 1-hour lab session during which you will complete study questionnaires, have your blood drawn, and be given a cortisol kit to be completed at home (these will include a pre-paid return envelope).
- You will then be e-mailed 5-minute online check-in 6 months following your participation in phase 1, confirmed your continued participant in phase 2 of the study.
- Phase 2 will be an online follow-up session occurring one year after your initial participation where you will be asked for around 30 minutes of your time to complete a subset of the questionnaires asked in Phase 1 of the study.
In appreciation of your time and participation, you will receive a $25 e-gift card following completion of Phase 1 and an additional $35 e-gift card following completion of Phase 2.

This study has been reviewed and received ethics clearance through the Research Ethics Committee (CUREB-B Clearance # 119723). The PI of this study is Dr. Kim Hellemans.
