The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor – Teaching-Stream. Applicants must have expertise in Space Systems Engineering. Experiences related to space industries, government agencies, or research institutes/centres would be an asset. Candidates with expertise in orbital mechanics, spacecraft design, spacecraft dynamics and control, and launch vehicle design are encouraged to apply. The target start date is July 1, 2026, although this is flexible.
The successful candidate will teach a total of six undergraduate courses (three courses per term, in some cases including two sections of the same course). Topics will include Dynamics, Orbital Mechanics, Spacecraft Design, Transatmospheric and Spacecraft Propulsion, Spacecraft Dynamics and Control, and fundamental engineering topics such as Feedback Control Systems, and Thermodynamics.
The candidate should have a commitment to teaching excellence, the vision and capabilities to develop and employ innovative teaching methods, maintain an inclusive and engaging environment for students, and contribute to the overall development of the Aerospace Engineering program. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Design, and the broader Carleton University community through involvement with student-centered events/projects/design teams, recruitment, student mentorship and advising, participation in committees, and service. No research expectations are associated with this position.

About the Academic Unit
At the Bachelor’s level, the Department has 4 programs: Mechanical, Aerospace, Biomedical & Mechanical, and Sustainable & Renewable Energy Engineering. The Aerospace Engineering program is divided into 4 streams: Stream A (Aerodynamics, Propulsion, and Vehicle Performance), Stream B (Aerospace Structures, Systems, and Vehicle Design), Stream C (Aerospace Electronics and Systems), and Stream D (Space Systems Design). At the Master’s level, the Department offers degrees in Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials, Biomedical, and Sustainable Energy Engineering. At the Ph.D. level, the Department offers degrees in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.

Qualifications
- A Ph.D. in engineering, preferably in space systems, astronautical, aerospace, or another related field. With prior research or industrial experience, candidates close to completion of their Ph.D. will also be considered.
- A proven track record of advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion in the discipline and on campus will be considered an asset.
- Demonstrated teaching excellence or potential for outstanding teaching contributions.
- Excellent ability to contribute to the academic life of the Unit.
- Demonstrated ability to carry out collaborative development of innovative teaching methods with existing members of the Unit is an asset.
- Be licensed, or eligible to become licensed, as a professional engineer in the province of Ontario.
