Norah Vollmer has dedicated 16 years of her professional career to Carleton University and she is known as a well-regarded senior administration executive, dedicated to education excellence.
Ms. Vollmer currently contributes her educational expertise and personal passion for ongoing learning as Manager of Faculty Affairs (https://carleton.ca/deputyprovost/faculty-affairs/), and she is a founding member and Co-Chair for the university’s Scholars At Risk program (https://carleton.ca/scholars-at-risk/).
Working closely with, and reporting to the Provost and Deputy Provost of Carleton University, she directs a team responsible for academic recruitment, faculty careers, immigration, human resources information systems, and equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) hiring training at the institution. As a member of Scholars at Risk (SAR) program at Carleton since its inception in 2013, she initiated its foundational focus and led the creation of a sustainable budget model. In her role as co-chair and first contact for many at-risk scholars, she leverages her strong and diverse academic network to share best practices and resources. She is known as a champion for the program, and actively encourages SAR programs across Canada. In the fall of 2023, Norah was recognized with a certificate of appreciation from the Institute for International Education (https://www.scholarrescuefund.org/) for “Extraordinary efforts to preserve the life, ideas, and work of scholars by providing a safe haven at Carleton University”. In April 2024, she was elected to the national Scholars at Risk Canada section steering committee (https://www.scholarsatrisk.org/sections/sar-canada/).
With significant experience in governance and policy analysis, she manages strategic planning, program development, settlement support, budget allocation, and fundraising related to SAR.
Prior to joining Carleton University, Norah worked with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in an executive facing role for seven years.
A graduate of Carleton University, she is also a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) and has advanced education in public policy and administration.
Norah speaks two languages and when she is not focused on elevating initiatives at Carleton University, she is pursuing an art history degree.
