The Governor’s Challenge is an annual competition for undergraduate university students to analyze and forecast economic developments for the monetary policy decision-making process.  The competition takes place in Ottawa at the Bank of Canada’s head office.

November 27th, 2023, Carleton’s team advanced to the final round of the competition. The team consisted of third- and fourth-year Economics students, Aidan Freitag, Jake Kasouf, Abigail Meloche, Linda Nidal Sadeck, and Joshua Vandervalk.

Led by Professor Raul Razo-Garcia:

Unfortunately, my students were not crowned champions, but they did an incredible job in the final. Each year only 5 teams are selected from more than 20 teams from different Canadian universities. Their recommendation to the Bank and the presentation they submitted was extraordinary–I am very proud of them. At such a young age, it takes a lot of courage to present in person to high-profile Bank of Canada staff (including a deputy governor and senior directors).
