Hosted by the Department of Economics and the Economics Chapter of the Carleton University Alumni Association, this event is a great opportunity for alumni of all eras to meet and network with fellow Economics alumni, faculty, staff and students.
This year we are very excited to feature Greg Ip, author and Chief Economics Commentator for the Wall Street Journal, as our Guest of Honour.
Greg graduated from Carleton in 1989 with a combined honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Journalism.
After an auspicious beginning as Editor of The Charlatan, Carleton’s student newspaper, from 1987 to 1988, Greg has had an illustrious career in economics journalism. Notably, from 1996, he worked for eight years at the Wall Street Journal before moving to the Economist, where he became the U.S. Economics editor. In 2015, he returned to the Wall Street Journal as Chief Economics Commentator.
During his career, Greg has reported on a very broad range of economics topics, including financial crises, interest rates, employment, and government policy. He has published three celebrated books, including The Little Book of Economics: How the Economy Works in the Real World and, most recently, Foolproof: Why Safety Can Be Dangerous and How Danger Makes Us Safe.
The reception will include complimentary hors d’oeuvres and cash bar.
