For all engineering students, a C- is no longer required in ECOR 1032, ECOR 1033, or ECOR 1034. A D- or higher in these courses will satisfy the prerequisite requirement for subsequent courses.
For ECOR 1031 – students in the following programs are required to earn a C- for registration in subsequent SYSC courses (SYSC 1006/2006, SYSC 2010, and SYSC 4006 all require a C- in ECOR 1031 (or ECOR 1041 and ECOR 1042) as prerequisites):
Biomedical & Electrical Engineering
Communications Engineering
Computer Systems Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Engineering Physics
Mechatronics Engineering
Software Engineering
Sustainable & Renewable Energy Engineering – stream A (Smart Technologies for Power Generation & Distribution)Note: It is your responsibility as a student to review course descriptions to determine what the new prerequisites are for your second year or higher courses.
-
If you have already repeated ECOR course(s), those attempts will stay on your academic record.
If you are unsure if you need to repeat an ECOR course again, please promptly contact ECORSupport@carleton.ca and include your student number and specific questions in the message.

Yes, the courses required in your program progression tree match what is required for your program requirements, although the course specific prerequisites may change for some courses. The 202530 and prior program progression trees will not be updated on our website to reflect new course prerequisites.
Please review the calendar course descriptions carefully to ensure you have all the prerequisites required for your upcoming courses.
It is very important that you stay on pattern in Fall-Winter terms. Doing so will ensure that the departments are accurately able to forecast demand for course offerings and ensure conflict-free options. Students who go off-pattern (ex. taking a 3rd year courses in 2nd year) may run into registration issues in subsequent terms.

The ECOR 104X courses will be under-coded in the registration system as equivalent prerequisites starting 2026 Fall as: “ECOR 103X or (ECOR 104X and ECOR 104X)”
Note that a C- grade requirement in ECOR 104X courses will be upheld since those courses were only offered when a C- grade was required in each.
For example: if the new prerequisite is ECOR 1034, the registration system will be set up to check your student record for prerequisites:
(ECOR 1034 D- or higher grade) or (ECOR 1047 C- or higher grade and ECOR 1048 C- or higher grade)
-
Yes, if your best attempt of a ECOR 104X is a D (D-, D, or D+) grade (even if converted to CR under the first-year grading policy) you will need to repeat the equivalent ECOR 103X course. See https://carleton.ca/engineering-design/current-students/undergrad-academic-support/first-year-advising/ for additional information.

No – if departments decide to use different prerequisites than those in the published calendar for 2025-26, then they have noted such in the public class schedule.
-
If you are off-pattern and your course plan included taking ECOR 3800 or SYSC 4106 in the same term as 4th year capstone project, please promptly contact your program advisor to request a modified course plan.
-
No, the registration system will be updated to reflect course prerequisites stated in the 2026-27 University calendar. If you are on-pattern, these prerequisite changes should not negatively impact your progression.
If your existing off-pattern course plan is no longer feasible with new prerequisite requirements, please promptly contact your program advisor for an updated course plan.

The Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 term class schedule is expected to become available in Carleton Central by end of day on Monday, May 25. At that time, students are encouraged to start drafting their timetables and review any registration warnings well in advance of time-tickets opening. Additional information and resources for planning your timetable will be shared via email by the Engineering Academic Support Office.

The ACE regulations will remain unchanged. However, the implementation of the Three Attempts of a Course (Engineering) regulation will be updated effective the 2026 Fall term ACE cycle, which is run in January 2027. The minimum grade needed to progress (for ECOR 103X courses specifically) will be updated in the Three Attempt checks based on the course prerequisites published in the 2026/27 University Undergraduate Calendar.
Note: Summer 2026 term ACE (which will run in late September 2026) and all prior ACE decisions are not impacted by these changes.
