Information Session

Where and when is the Iron Ring information session?

It is on March 12, 2026, from 6 – 7:30 p.m. in Minto Centre 2000, Bell Theatre.

Is the Iron Ring information session mandatory to attend, or mandatory in order to receive my Iron Ring?

No, you do not have to attend the information session in order to receive your iron ring. If you cannot attend, the slideshow presentation will be shared online.

What happens if I can’t attend the Iron Ring information session?

If you are registered to attend the Iron Ring Obligation Ceremony but are unable to attend the in-person information session, you will need to review the event briefing presentation in advance of attending the ceremony.

Registration and Ticket Purchasing

How do I register to receive my Iron Ring?

If you are eligible to receive your Iron Ring, you would have received an invitation email from ironring@outreach.carleton.ca on February 13, 2026. All the information you need to register can be found in this email.

Can I bring a guest to the ceremony?

Yes, friends and family are welcome to attend the ceremony, but advance registration (paid ticket) is required. Due to venue capacity, one guest per graduating student is permitted, but must register separately (see below). Guests do not need to be engineers to attend.

How can my guest purchase a ticket?

Information can be found in your original invite email from ironring@outreach.carleton.ca.

Is it possible to bring more than one guest to the ceremony?

This venue has limited capacity. After the guest registration deadline, organizers will evaluate whether capacity has/has not been reached. When purchasing your first guest ticket, please indicate on the form that you wish to be notified if seats are available for a second guest.

My guest is an engineer who would like to present me with my Iron Ring. What do I do?

Once your guest checks in at the ceremony, they will be instructed where to sit as to best present you with your Iron Ring.

What is the deadline and cost to register?

Early registration

– $40.00 CAD + HST

– Deadline to register is  Sunday, March 15, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET

Regular registration

– $50.00 CAD + HST

– Deadline to register is Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET

I missed the deadline to register – what can I do?

For student registration, please email ironring@carleton.ca. We will do our best to accommodate you, but cannot guarantee you will be able to attend.

Ring Sizing

Where and when is the ring sizing?

Ring sizing is on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Ravens’ Nest, Alumni Hall at Carleton University (drop-in).

What do I need to bring to the ring sizing?

You must bring your Carleton Campus Card.

What do I do after the ring sizing?

You will receive your Iron Ring, certificate, and oath during ring sizing. Once completed, you may go about your day, but must return for the ceremony no later than 2:15 p.m.

Before the ceremony, where do the students gather?

The students will gather in Norm Fenn Gym, and then proceed to the ceremony.

Ceremony

Where and when is the Iron Ring Obligation Ceremony?

The Iron Ring Obligation Ceremony on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. in Ravens’ Nest, Alumni Hall at Carleton University.

How long does the ceremony take?

Approximately 1 hour.

What do I have to bring to the ceremony?

Your Iron Ring and your oath. You do not need to bring your certificate to the ceremony.

What do I have to do during the ceremony?

During the ceremony, you will be asked to take the Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer (oath) while holding the iron chain. You will then be presented with your Iron Ring.

I do not have a guest that will present my Iron Ring to me. What do I do?

The Wardens of Camp 12 will present rings to students that do not have a guest to do so.

What should I wear to the ceremony?

Formal business attire. Please note that March weather fluctuates.

General Event Details

Is parking available at Carleton?

Yes, please visit the Visitor Parking page to learn more.

Will refreshments be served after the ceremony?

There are no refreshments as part of the ceremony. Water will be available.

Will there be an opportunity to purchase flowers, gifts, etc. before, during or after the ceremony?

There will be no vendors on campus to provide these services. Please purchase off-campus prior to the ceremony.

Can pictures or videos be taken during the ceremony?

During the ceremony, pictures and videos are strictly prohibited in accordance with Camp 12, the local chapter of the Corporation of the Seven Wardens. Once the ceremony has concluded, cameras are allowed.

I got to the ceremony late. Will I be able to attend?

Doors will close once the ceremony begins. Late arrivals will not be admitted, in accordance with Camp 12, the local chapter of the Corporation of the Seven Wardens.

Registration

Are guests allowed to attend the ceremony?

Yes, it is $25 + HST to register for the ceremony.
