Temporary Nideyinàn Closure
Nideyinàn will be temporarily closed from 8 p.m. Sunday, April 26 to 6 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2026, to allow for essential electrical infrastructure upgrades. This work is part of a planned project to replace end‑of‑life high‑voltage equipment and ensure the long‑term safety and reliability of the building’s power systems.
What to Expect During the Closure
During the nine‑day shutdown:
- Nideyinàn will be closed to the community beginning at 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 26.
There will be no normal power, heating or cooling (HVAC), lighting, elevators, or building access. - Entry to the building will be restricted to authorized project personnel only.
- All spaces and services in Nideyinàn — including student services, food outlets, offices, meeting rooms, and study areas — will be unavailable.
Preparing for the Shutdown
Campus Safety Services (CSS) will enter all spaces in the building beginning at 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, 2026, to confirm they are unoccupied and will then secure (lock) them.
Before this time, building users should:
- Remove all personal items they may need during the closure.
- Empty refrigerators and remove temperature‑sensitive items, as power will be off for the full shutdown period.
- Take plants and any essential materials home or to another workspace.
Accessible Routes and Wayfinding
During the closure period, alternate accessible routes will be available through the campus tunnel system.
Clear signage will be installed throughout the tunnels and at key decision points to guide users safely around the closed building.
Please follow all posted wayfinding signage when navigating through this area.
Building Closure Signage
During the closure period, all entrances to Nideyinàn will be clearly marked with signage indicating that the building is closed.
Signage will be installed at all access points to notify users that entry is not permitted and to direct them to alternate routes where applicable.
Please follow all posted signage and use designated alternate paths when navigating through the area.
Dining Services Alternatives
During the closure period, dining options in Nideyinàn will be closed. Visit the Dining Services Hours of Operations page for information on alternative dining options during the closure.
Tenant Preparation Reminders
Tenants are asked to complete the following prior to the building shutdown:
- Remove all perishable items from personal fridges and storage areas (if any)
- Remove any personal belongings needed during the closure period
- Unplug sensitive equipment (e.g., computers, printers, monitors, and similar electronic devices) to prevent potential damage when power is restored.
Why This Timing was Chosen
The closure is scheduled after the end of the winter term and final exams to minimize disruption to academic activities. Spring timing also reduces the broader impacts that would occur during winter heating periods or cooling periods later in the summer.
Reopening
Normal access to Nideyinàn is expected to resume at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, following system restoration and safety checks.
We recognize that this temporary closure may cause inconvenience, and we appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as this important work is completed.
