We’re talking diversity on World Industrial Design Day 2021
Observed annually on 29 June, World Industrial Design Day celebrates and recognizes the power of design to strengthen economic, social, cultural, and environmental development around the world. This year, we’ll be addressing a broad spectrum of topics under the theme of diversity in design throughout the entire month of June.
For the design community, in a world that is increasingly interconnected, this long-awaited shift in the conversations about representation and inclusion is today more relevant than ever. It means pushing ourselves to understand and recognize the individual differences that make our needs unique as it pertains to issues of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, physical abilities, socio-economic status, as well as religious, political or other ideologies.
Ironically, this World Industrial Design Day, diversity is the word that we hope will unify us as we aim to encourage designers around the globe to reflect on the actions we can all take to challenge the status quo and contribute to a more diverse and inclusive industry.
Speak up. We’re listening
We plan to culminate our month-long discussions with a 24h live-streamed event on 29 June 2021. We’re looking for individuals with subject matter experience related to diversity and/or inclusion in design to host 30-minute sessions. If you’ve got something to say about the matter, register your interest via our online form by 30 April 2021.
