As we embark on this new year, we are excited to share with you the opportunity for your students to participate in our First Annual Mobility Design CompetitionInclusivity Through Accessibility, in partnership with Autodesk and Pininfarina.

Today, nearly 22% of the population of this country are living with some form of disability that affects their level of freedom, independence, or quality of life. Persons with disabilities are often faced with multiple challenges including lack of full mobility with types of transportation they can use. As a result, drivers with disabilities in Canada must pay more for a product that they need more and with fewer available resources than the average Canadian.

The challenge of this competition is to design a form of EV mobility that comfortably and ergonomically carries ALL individuals from location A to location B.

This design competition will be rolled out in two (2) phases:

  • Phase 1: Submission of Interest: Start Date: Monday 31st January 2022 – Completion Date: Friday March 4th, 2022
  • Phase 2:  Design Development CAD:  Start Date: Monday 18th April 2022 – Completion Date: Friday June 24th, 2022
  • Competition Winner Announced: Monday, July 4th, 2022

Phase One will be launched today, Monday, January 31st, 2022. The design brief and registration form for the competition can be found on our site, https://apma.ca/competition-submission-dates/. We hope that your institution and students will be joining the other seventeen design schools in Canada and taking part in this great initiative, which is being judged by international design leaders. The three best exemplary submissions will be invited to attend the APMA Annual Conference.  All team members will have all travel expenses and conference fees paid, to be recognized by the Canadian automotive industry leaders.

Prize money for the competition winners is a total of $10,000 which will be divided equally among team members.  The finalists will also receive full press coverage of the design work as well as design-development support (including physical fabrication) within the Autodesk Technology Centres Outsight Network.
