Ruth Gavison on the State and Religions in Israel: The Regulation of Marriage and Divorce

Ruth Gavison is the Haim H. Cohn Professor emerita of Human Rights at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a member of the Israeli Academy of Science. She has published extensively in Israel and abroad, and her many awards include the prestigious Israel Prize for legal research in 2011.

Professor Gavison’s area of research include equality and integration, the protection of minorities, human rights, political theory, the role of courts in democracy, religion and politics, and Israel as a Jewish and democratic state.
