Nina Bigras earned a Bachelor of Arts Honours in Psychology in 2018, following a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering in 2009!

What is your current job/schooling?

Currently a full-time Senior Program Engineer with Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) and enrolled in the M.Eng. Infrastructure Protection and International Security (IPIS) program at Carleton University part-time (I hold a B.Eng. from Carleton University dating back to 2009…).

What skills did you learn in your BA that helped you in your current position?

Analytical / critical thinking, research skills, writing and information synthesis.

What did you do after your BA?

I almost immediately applied for the M.Eng. IPIS program and moved into a more strategic role with DRDC.

Do you have any advice for students thinking about taking a BA in Psychology at Carleton?

Carleton University has a great breadth of psychology courses and adjacent programs, phenomenal instructors and an excellent relationship with industry and Government organizations, which is beyond what you can expect from many other institutions. The resources available to students beyond the classroom are excellent and staffed by student volunteers with a genuine desire to help and foster success in their peers. The ACE Lab Director and post-doctoral researcher I worked with for my Honours thesis allowed me to be innovative in my own right while giving me enough oversight and guidance to meet my deadlines and commitments. The opportunities that can be exploited with a degree in Psychology go beyond the traditional understanding of the program and can be an asset in any organization. I am immeasurably pleased to be part of the extended Carleton University Psychology family, and highly recommend this program.
