Good Standing (GS)

Even if you are in Good Standing, it is important to note that if you have any failed courses on your academic record you could still be at risk. If you have accumulated any F, ABS, FND or UNS grades, we strongly encourage you to meet with an academic advisor so that you understand your discredit limit and how it may affect future evaluations and/or continuation in your degree.

We encourage students to contact the Academic Advising Centre if you have questions about your academic standing or about your academic progress.

The Centre provides the following services:

• Academic Advising to provide assistance in understanding the Academic Performance Evaluation decision and providing additional support, guidance and/or options for students who may have special circumstances which have adversely affected their ability to meet academic obligations
• Academic Improvement Planning (provides direction and tools to get back on track)
• Referrals to other academic supports, such as writing tutorial services and study skill workshops

CGPA requirements are based on your program, as well as on the total number of courses that you have attempted. Please click here for general information.

Please ensure to read all of the Academic Performance regulations for your program as some degrees have regulations in addition to minimum CGPA requirements.

It is important that you become familiar with your audit and review it on a regular basis. We encourage you to review your audit after every registration period to ensure that you are on track for graduation! The Academic Advising Centre has a number of helpful tips to walk you through this process step-by-step. In addition, there is an online “my audit” video tutorial (5:04 min).

The online “hypothetical audit” video tutorial (7:05 min) will guide you through the process of running a “hypothetical” audit.  The hypothetical audit will allow you to evaluate your CGPA based on hypothetical grades. This tool will also allow you to see how future hypothetical courses would affect your academic requirements.

For students who prefer to manually calculate their CGPAs, instructions are available in section 3.2.4 of the Undergraduate Academic Calendar.

Effective Fall 2022, Carleton University will be changing their current Academic Evaluation process of APE (Academic Performance Evaluation) to ACE (Academic Continuation Evaluation).  ACE will be an end-of-term assessment of a student’s status in their degree, all students will be assessed under the ACE (Academic Continuation Evaluation) regulations only for Fall 2022 with decisions being posted in late January 2023.  ACE will not base assessments on previous decisions earned under the Academic Performance Evaluation (APE) process.
