Professor Yanikomeroglu has been elected as the Steering Committee Chair of the IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC) (a three-year term, renewable for another three years).

WCNC is IEEE’s flagship event in the wireless domain. Here is how the conference is described by the IEEE: “IEEE WCNC is the world premier wireless event that brings together industry professionals, academics, and individuals from government agencies and other institutions to exchange information and ideas on the advancement of wireless communications and networking technology”.

Professor Yanikomeroglu contributed to this conference in various capacities since its inception in 1999, including serving as the Technical Program Chair/Co-Chair three times: WCNC 2004 (Atlanta), WCNC 2008 (Las Vegas), and WCNC 2014 (Istanbul). Professor Yanikomeroglu is the only person to have had this privilege three times. Now, we will serve as the Steering Committee Chair.

The wireless experience for most of the general public has until recently been limited to WiFi and smart phones. However, there is a rejuvenated interest, actually a huge new wave of momentum in this field as we are moving into the era of “connected everything” with a rich and diverse set of emerging and enabling frameworks and technologies.

In this new era, Professor Yanikomeroglu will take WCNC to the next level.

Congratulations to Professor Yanikomeroglu!
