Only two years out of Journalism school, Robert Williams (BJ ’17) is one of the latest recipients of the 28th Annual Hon. Edward Goff Memorial Prize for Young Canadian Journalists.

The award goes to only two journalists between the ages of 20 and 25 each year, one from a large market newspaper, the other from a small one.

Williams won in the latter category for his series of stories exploring a range of issues, from a New Brunswick woman fighting for better sick benefits to how losing ferry service has affected the lives of Campobello Island residents.

He credits his former journalism instructors for helping him launch his career.

“I certainly wouldn’t have had these opportunities without them,” he said. “A special shoutout to Neil Haesler, who encouraged me to head out to New Brunswick after graduation. Sometimes we need a gentle push, and I’m forever thankful for that.”
