Biography

Clarissa is a PhD student with a broad academic background in visual media and journalism. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History and Communication Studies with a minor in World Cinema from McGill University, and a Master’s degree in Digital Innovation in Journalism Studies from Concordia University. Her graduate research paper focused on digital news media and the negative impacts that online disinformation has on contemporary liberal democracies, through a legal and ethical framework. Specifically, how unethical digital reporting and online right-wing extremism activities in Canada, is disrupting the digital public sphere.

Clarissa’s general research interests include: disinformation, alternative media, radicalization, right-wing extremism, propaganda, populism, and social movements.
