Adjunct Research Professor and Contract Instructor Greg Brown has been featured in a Toronto Star article as well as an interview on The Agenda with Steve Paikin, discussing the Ford government’s changes to Ontario police recruitment.
Brown, who is a former police officer, said that he was surprised by the announcement as he believes that “we were moving on a trajectory toward requiring more education than less.”
Highlighting concerns about mental-health, de-escalation, and recent controversies surrounding the police in Ontario, Brown says that “reversing the educational trajectory is the exact wrong way to handle that.”
The Toronto Star article, which features discussions about the post-secondary requirements for police officers in the province, was published on May 9th, 2023.
The interview, hosted by Steve Paikin and broadcast on tvoToday, includes opinions from Dr. Greg Brown (Carleton University), Dr. Timothy Bryan (University of Toronto), and Mark Baxter (Police Association of Ontario).
