Solidarity with CUPE 4600

As interim Chair of the Department of Sociology of Sociology and Anthropology, I want to express my solidarity with members of CUPE 4600 who are presently on strike. Contract Instructors and Teaching Assistants are an integral part of our Department and enable us to deliver high-quality education and learning experiences to our students. Both bargaining units in CUPE 4600 deserve fairer pay and better working conditions.

I strongly support the request of our colleagues in CUPE 4600 and the advice of CUASA that Faculty members not move their classes online during the strike, nor to undertake the work of the TA’s. I also encourage Faculty members and administrative staff to support CUPE 4600 on the picket lines. I will be joining the picket lines this week at lunchtime by the Colonel By Drive entrance.
