Reyhab Mohmed Patel, Sociology PhD student and contract instructor, was selected to attend the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) Summer School on Islam in Europe in Sarajevo, Bosnia this past August. She was 1 of 6 students to receive a Student Award from the Centre for Islam in the Contemporary World and the IIIT program. This rigorous 10-day program brought together leading international scholars and graduate students to engage with themes such as Islam and modernity, decolonizing knowledge, the challenges of Muslim minorities in Europe, and the intersections of religion, politics, and identity.

Alongside seminars and lectures, the program included field visits to Sarajevo, Srebrenica, and Mostar, where participants learned about the Bosnian genocide through the testimonies of survivors and their descendants, as well as the ongoing struggles around memory, justice, and reconciliation.
