Abstract
The policing of the Palestine solidarity movement in Toronto since October 8 2023 reveals how a narrative of ”challenging hate” can be used to legitimize a dangerous crackdown on civil liberties. As an engaged scholar, I will argue that to understand how this has happened, one must take history and temporality seriously; with its narratives, institutional dynamics and emotional dimensions.
