“I think the most important things I learned during my MA at Carleton were how to make important connections in the material and in my critical thinking. The ability to pick up on the common threads between articles and books and the interplay between arguments has been essential in my work as a PhD student. Also, being required to defend my MA thesis was excellent preparation for the defence I will have to do as a PhD student. Having sat in on the defences of other PhD students it has been heartening to see that it is quite similar to what I experienced at Carleton and makes me feel more prepared for the encounter.”
