“By exploring, understanding, and respecting the ways each of our worldviews and cultures are unique, anthropology is useful in any career field where collaboration, sensitivity, and critical thinking are needed. In my current role with the Government of Canada, I spend my days listening and discussing social issues—with colleagues, with Canadians from coast-to-coast-to-coast, and even with officials and partners overseas. Anthropological training teaches us to listen and hear the full story before drawing conclusions. It trains us to examine our personal assumptions and seek strong evidence before making decisions. Though technical abilities or job-specific training will always be useful in finding a career, success in today’s workforce demands social intelligence that anthropology is uniquely well-equipped to help instill.”
