I loved every minute of my 4 years at Carleton University in the Sociology-Anthropology department. I especially remember Professor Charles Laughlin and so many fascinating courses within the Sociology and Anthropology department, but also absorbing courses in history, computer science, astronomy, and the one-of-a-kind local natural history course and the very special opportunity to participate in a field placement in the research building at the Canadian Museum of History (then the Canadian Museum of Civilization). Carleton provided me with a rich and diverse education – which led to my enjoying a rich and diverse career which has included international education, and positions at Library and Archives Canada, the Public Service Commission of Canada, and in my volunteer role as President (now Past President) of the Historical Society of Ottawa. I see that current courses are as broad and varied as studies of girlhood, children, mainstream North American culture, colonialism and post-colonialism, and even natural resources and animals in sociological research! I also see many familiar courses such as visual and gender studies, and ethnography. Clearly Carleton has stayed on the leading-edge of academics and in all honesty, I wish I could go back and do it all again!
