The years I spent in the graduate program in Anthropology at Carleton University laid a solid foundation for the work I have done both inside and outside academia. I learned how to lead an intellectually rigorous and respectful discussion; I learned what meaningful mentorship looks like; I learned the many benefits of being surrounded by a diverse and lively group of peers and colleagues. At Carleton, I relished in ideas, honed my tools of trade, and was exposed to a variety of ways of applying one’s skills and talents to doing work that aligns with one’s values and commitments. I continue to draw on the experiences and connections I cultivated in the Anthropology Program at Carleton University in my ongoing engagements — moving Canadians closer to transforming Indigenous-settler relations, decolonizing our relationships to land and resource decisions, and in the broadest sense, expanding the space for putting into practice “worlds otherwise.”
