Sociology and Indigenous Sovereignties Reading Group

Monday, November 28, 2022 from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm

Join Dr. Laura Hall and the Decolonization and Anti-Racism Committee for a virtual reading group. This discussion will be focused on the 1st and 2nd Hocus Pocus films, as well as this article about The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

What are our responsibilities to Indigenous sovereignties, Indigenous independence movements, and to undoing/challenging settler colonialism in so-called Canada? This reading group will jump into that discussion, inclusive of contemporary challenges rooted in settler colonial eradication (of Indigenous Peoples)/replacement (by white-settler nation/individual ownership) goals, addressing the Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, the TRC, and other contemporary conversations about environmental change.

Please read the article, and familiarize yourself with the films prior to the session.

These are some of the things that you will discuss in this reading group. If you’re interested, please register below to receive the Zoom link.
