“The Sociology and Anthropology Department at Carleton University is an outstanding academic place where students are taught to explore and reach their full potential both as academics and human beings. I learned this firsthand. Excited about its historical reputation as a hub for critical thinking, I enrolled in the PhD program in sociology with specialization in Political Economy in 2011. My experience throughout the program was truly exceptional. Professors, students, and administrative personnel are all super kind, friendly, and extremely supportive. With the intellectual training and support that I received from my professors and the Department, I had the opportunity to participate in academic conferences in several parts of the world, to serve in academic committees, to teach within the Program, to practice sports (soccer!), and to conduct research. This comprehensive experience and training helped me tremendously, as by the time I had completed the program I had accumulated experience in research, peer reviewed publications, service, community work, and teaching in a way I have never expected. I always carry with me all the teachings, lessons, opportunities, and wonderful experiences that this program provided me with when I was graduate student. This is the most precious treasure that I got from studying in this exceptional Program. Thanks, Soci/Anthro people!”
