“There is a strong tradition of feminist and relational scholarship in Carleton’s Department of Sociology. The department offers an incredible homebase for deep thinking, intellectual rigour and cross-disciplinary collaborations. As a feminist scholar, it meant a lot to work with faculty, students and staff who value people and relationships, and recognize the importance of collaborative work. I enjoyed setting the timer to write in shared silence with others and enjoyed contributing to thesis groups or other working groups. It was energizing to be in the room. At Carleton, I had the opportunity to work with leading experts in feminist theory and care work, to complete a visiting fellowship at Maastricht University, and to conduct research on multiple SSHRC-funded research teams. I’m incredibly grateful to have worked with my supervisor Susan Braedley, my committee members Janet Siltanen and Megan Rivers-Moore, and others along the way. These strong relationships have opened doors for my involvement on other SSHRC research teams and with international aging and care work networks. Since graduating, I have further expanded my program of research through a SSHRC-funded postdoc in Brock’s Department of Sociology and have had the chance to teach in the department. It has meant a lot to keep the conversations and synergies going!”
