“I came into Anthropology “late” in my studies: it wasn’t until the beginning of my 4th year that I realized I wanted to change my degree and focus on Anthropology instead. Those two years and my MA after that, were filled with material that inspired me. Taking courses in Anthropology, and closely-related disciplines, provided me with the opportunity to grow through self-reflection, critical thinking, analysis, discussion and writing. I vividly remember sitting in classrooms having “aha” moments, getting uncomfortable talking about things I took for granted, being challenged by profs and peers, and learning so much about myself and the world. In the MA, I thrived doing fieldwork; I was held accountable to my learning in the intimacy of a small cohort; enjoyed teaching as a Teaching Assistant; and managed to come out the other side of the arduous & fulfilling process of writing a thesis. I remain in contact with many of the staff, peers and faculty to this day, and am grateful for the experiences I had in the department.”
