Margaret Brierley

As a Funeral Director, I am meeting people from different cultural and social backgrounds who are going through an extremely difficult time in their life. Different religions, outlooks on life, and grieving experiences can be challenging for some to adapt to, especially in a professional setting. My time at Carleton has helped me overcome these challenges in many ways in my current career. Studying Anthropology completely changed the way I view the world, and made me a more understanding person to other people’s experiences and choices. It also allowed me to grow personally and professionally, giving me the chance to mature in more ways than one before entering this field. Death is a taboo topic in our culture, but I am grateful to have Anthropology in my tool belt when I am helping a family. Anthropology has made the transition into this career easy and exciting.
