William Saunders Lifetime Achievement Award
Ed Bruggink, recently retired from Carleton University, has been honoured with the Julia Hunter Foundation’s 2025 William Saunders Lifetime Achievement Award for his decades of transformative work in horticulture and public education.
Bruggink spent his career shaping Carleton’s greenhouse into a vibrant centre for research, teaching, and community outreach. He created and nurtured the university’s beloved Butterfly Show, a signature event that has helped enrich public understanding of nature while providing an engaging visitor experience.
The award recognizes Bruggink’s lasting impact on environmental education and his role in strengthening public engagement with horticulture across Canada.
