Below is a list of our ITS recommended computer selection from our preferred vendors.
All systems listed here are fully supported by ITS, have Carleton’s standard image adapted to them and meet all of our ITS security (TPM Encryption) and CUnet domain membership requirements.

To Place an Order
Desktops, Notebooks and Mac PCs can be acquired via a purchase order (PO) directly through the University’s eProcurement system eShop.
If you have had the equipment delivered to your home address, please contact ITS Hardware Services (its.hardware.services@carleton.ca) to make an appointment for the configuration of the new device (which includes the Carleton Image).
Once logged into eShop search for Carleton Image to find the standard configurations listed below. (Standard configurations already have ITS software images adapted to them and receive full support from ITS.)

Tablets
Microsoft Surface Pro
Various configurations and prices are available through eShop Vendors.
Recommended accessories to order:
- The Special ‘Surface Cable locks’ (ordinary laptop locks do not fit).
- Surface Pen, Surface Arc Mouse, Surface Pro Type Cover and Surface Dock.
Desktops
Desktops can be configured for office or home use. A Carleton University standard desktop image may be installed on computers purchased with university funds for the models above.
Home Use: Please note that a Carleton University Standard Image may be used for computers purchased for work-at-home with the addition of VPN software to allow for authentication back to the license server on CUnet. If using personal funds to purchase a computer please specify that the “Operating System (OS) with Home Edition” is required at the time you place your order. The MS Office Suite at Home version would also be required; for more information on this software, please visit ITS Site Licensed Software.

Notebooks
Notebooks and tablets can be configured for office or home use. A standard image may be installed on notebooks purchased with university funds for the models above. Locking devices are strongly recommended for notebooks.
Home Use: Please note that a Standard Carleton Image cannot be used for computers purchased for home use, whether it be for work-at-home or personal use. When placing your computer order to the vendor, please specify that the “Operating System (OS) with Home Edition” is required.
