First Year Registration FAQs

email sent to new students June 16, 2020

Good morning – we hope that you took the time to login to Carleton Central to view your assigned block timetable. Based on the questions we’ve been receiving from new students, we’d like to share some timetable and registration FAQs, as well as some helpful reminders.

1. To view your timetable: log into Carleton central, under Registration, select Build Your Timetable/Registration, select Fall 2020 term, then click “view worksheet”. Once on the worksheet page scroll down to see your timetable for that term.

We would note that since the ECOR 104X courses only run 6 weeks (1/2 of the term) your schedule will change mid-term. To see your late term ECOR 104X course schedule, change the date of your timetable to the week of:

November 2, 2020 for Fall 2020 term, and February 22, 2021 for Winter 2021 term

2. Engineering students CANNOT break their block schedule.

You have been approved to register in specific sections of each of your courses, and that cannot be adjusted. The only 2 exceptions are:

3. By now all program restriction warnings should be cleared on your block courses. If you have any program restriction warnings, please let us know by sending a screenshot of your worksheet page that lists the course numbers and sections.

4. You will still see prerequisite warnings for winter term courses, this is because your fall term courses are prerequisites for winter term courses. To ensure this doesn’t cause registration issues, you just need to register for Fall term courses first and then Winter term.

5. The approved lists of Complementary Studies Electives and Basic Science Electives will be posted by the end of this week. Please use your program progression map to determine if you need to add an elective in first year, and if so in which term to do so. For electives, you should select based on personal interest – there’s not a specific subset of the approved electives for different programs.

Note: only electives on the posted lists will count towards your degree requirements.

6. Please review our Step-by-Step Registration Instructions posted in advance of when your time-ticket opens. You are expected to register as soon as your time-ticket opens – June 24-26 – do not delay!

7. Course delivery plans will be included in the Section Information for your courses, visible in Carleton Central. This will let you know if your courses/labs are being delivered synchronous (real time) or asynchronous. Please note: while all Fall 2020 term courses are being delivered remotely (no on campus lectures or labs) you will still need to be available for the times indicated in your timetable for lecture/lab activities. Synchronous course activities will be delivered in local Ottawa (EST) time.

Information about the first-year engineering core courses, including ECOR 104X course content topics has been posted on the First Year Engineering Student page.
