Checklist for New Students Starting Studies in September

June 2024

• By June 1: Sign up for your Carleton student cmail email account and check weekly.
• Starting June 1: Register for Summer Orientation 
• By June 15: Review registration instructions for Engineering students.

July 2024

• July 3-5: Register for first year courses as soon as your time-ticket opens.
• Starting July 1: register for Fall Orientation: EngFrosh.
• By July 15: Request a First Year Connections Mentor.
• Review the Engineering First Year Supplies list – ensure that your laptop meets specifications listed by program.

August 2024

• Starting August 1: Start reviewing the Foundations for Engineering (available in Brightspace) to review/refresh on key high school math and science concepts you’ll need in first year engineering courses. We recommend completing 3-4 modules per week leading up to classes starting.
• Check your textbook list (search by student #) and order once confirmed by your instructor.
• Mid-August: Familiarize yourself with Carleton’s Learning Management System (where you’ll find course content) by watching some Brightspace Learner How-To videos.

September 2024

• Complete the Self-Assessment for Engineering (SAFE) – instructions will be sent via email.
• September 3: Attend Engineering Academic Orientation Day.
• Review your class schedule in advance of classes starting.
• September 4: First day of classes!
