A weekly report of various Russian newspapers such as Kommersant, Vremya, Sevodnya, translated into English. Provides information mainly on political events and economic issues from Russia, the FSU and Eastern Europe. The topics are especially relevant on an international level, in terms of security issues, relations with the West and the political orientation of Russia towards the near abroad. The Current Digest provides access to the Russian perspective on the development of events in the region and the range of newspapers from which articles are taken reflect various political opinions. World News Connection (formerly FBIS) *ceased operations December 31, 2013 – online reports available until March 31, 2014.
The WNC can be accessed via computers in the government documents section of Carleton Library (2nd Floor). The government documents librarian has the password to access the WNC internet site. WNC provides translated information from a large selection of newspapers from many countries. The database has a search engine and is divided by regions and covers Eastern Europe (including Russia) as a distinct region. It offers the latest headlines and provides summaries and complete articles translated into English. (Tip: For best results conduct a structured search)
