Marek Eby
Marek Eby is a graduate of the Russian and Eurasian Studies Stream. Marek joined EURUS in 2013 after completing a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science at Bishop’s University. Marek was drawn to the program because of its interdisciplinary focus, which allowed him to take courses that covered both the region’s history and current events. Marek originally intended to write his thesis on British colonial history. However, he was drawn to the history of the Soviet Union and Central Asia. He spent two months in Kyrgyzstan studying Russian and conducting archival research for his MA thesis on Soviet medical history.
Marek’s experience writing a thesis at EURUS and his ability to learn Russian in the program enabled him to pursue a PhD in History from New York University, where he has completed extensive archival research in both Central Asia and Russia.
