Sustainability Mission
As a hub of innovation and creativity, the School of Industrial Design at Carleton University is committed to leading sustainable practices and addressing climate change through design. We have committed to changing the impact of our show through the design of high-quality exhibit materials reworked from existing items from within the school and reducing the need for single-use materials as much as possible.
Through events like DisPLAY, we aim to shift the attitude of sustainable thinking by integrating it within the core of our mission, our curriculum and research. This commitment strengthens our efforts to reduce our environmental footprint and supports a campus that is resilient, inclusive, and forward-thinking.
Strategic Actions:
- Prioritize sustainable materials for event setups, emphasizing recycled content and minimizing packaging waste.
- Collaborate within the department to replace single-use plastics with sustainable alternatives for Display and other school events. Involve students, faculty, and community partners in tracking waste reduction progress and participating in sustainability decision-making.
