20-hour limit on off-campus work limit will be LIFTED temporarily for international students starting November 15, 2022

On October 7, the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced that eligible international students will not be limited to 20 hours per week of off-campus work during the period between November 15, 2022 and December 31, 2023.

Carleton students whose valid study permit authorizes them to work off-campus should note that they must maintain full-time student status to benefit from this temporary removal of the cap on off-campus working hours.

The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) says: “This measure will provide many international students with a greater opportunity to gain valuable work experience in Canada and will increase the availability of workers to sustain Canada’s post-pandemic growth.”

Students should contact the International Student Services Office (ISSO) if they have any questions about authorized work in Canada.  The ISSO also hosts several information sessions where students can get answers from their certified immigration advisors.
