International students who are starting as new students for Spring/Summer 2021 term, and residing outside of Canada,  may be eligible to opt out of the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) for the summer term.

This option applies to new international students starting in the summer term and new/returning Special students and not for students who were enrolled for Fall 2020/Winter 2021, as that opt-out deadline has passed.

If you plan on travelling to Canada at some point this summer, opt out of UHIP now and coverage will be reinstated based on travel date.  Notify the ISSO of any travel plans to Canada by emailing

Miss the Fall 2020 and/or Winter 2021 UHIP opt out period?  If you were outside Canada for Fall 2020 and/or Winter 2021 period and did not opt-out of UHIP in time, email for more details on how you can still opt out (if eligible).

Students with questions about their UHIP coverage should contact the International Student Services Office (ISSO) at
