Please join us in congratulating Dr. Kelly Babchishin who is a recipient of the Early Researcher Awards!

The Ontario government is investing $75 million in research and innovation projects across the province through the Early Researcher Awards (ERA) and Ontario Research Fund. Each ERA recipients receives $150,000 over five years to support work that addresses key challenges facing Ontarians.

Dr. Kelly Babchishin, Department of Psychology at Carleton University, is among the ERA recipients. Her research focuses on understanding and preventing technology-facilitated sexual offences, such as sextortion, nonconsensual sharing of sexts, and the progression from viewing child sexual exploitation material (CSEM) to in-person offences. Her team will survey 800 university students and 800 adults convicted of CSEM-related offences to identify key risk factors. The findings will inform targeted prevention programs and education initiatives in schools and universities, aiming to reduce offending and ease pressure on Ontario’s justice system.

Congratulations on this amazing achievement, Dr. Babchishin!
