There are two main sources of funding – internal and external. Some funding may be awarded to you upon entry to the program, some funding is based on recommendations from the Department, while some other funding must be applied for by yourself, either through Carleton University or to an external funding agency.
Research bursaries are available for students in financial need who require assistance to conduct or disseminate their research. The Graduate Student Travel/Research Bursary Application is available online via Carleton Central.
There are a number of prestigious external awards available from national and provincial agencies. These include the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC Canada Graduate Scholarship – MA $17,500) and Ontario Graduate Scholarships (OGS $15,000). Keep an eye out for information sessions in the early fall.
To learn about the funding options that are available to you, you can search the Graduate Studies awards database , read about some specific awards that you should know about, or by contacting the awards staff at Graduate Studies. The Graduate Supervisor and Graduate Administrator are also great resources. You can also visit our the Scholarships & Awards page which provides more information about external funding opportunities.
