Pending Negative (PN)
A notation of Pending Negative (PN) is assigned to currently registered students (registered in the term subsequent to the ACE assessment term) after the date when negative decisions of DP, CA, WT or WY are no longer formally assigned (Feb 15 – Fall assessment, Jun 15 – Winter assessment, Oct 15 – Summer assessment).
Pending Negative (PN) signifies that you have not met the academic standards required for your program and would have received the decision of DP, CA, WT, or WY. Please note that the definitions for all ACE decisions are listed in Section 3.2.1 of the Undergraduate Calendar.
For more information about CGPA requirements for Eligible to Continue (EC) status for degree students and Special Students, please see the links below to the Undergraduate Calendar.
You are permitted to continue in your program for this term, but your academic performance is unsatisfactory at this time. At your next Academic Continuation Evaluation, you are at risk of a negative decision.
If you are a degree student who has been assigned Pending Negative (PN), it is strongly recommended that you meet with an Academic Advisor at the Academic Advising Centre. It is very important that you understand the risks associated with this decisions and how the University’s rules and regulations can affect your standing in your program at your next Academic Continuation Evaluation.
This change to your academic status will likely affect your eligibility for OSAP or other provincial student financial aid programs. It is recommended you reach out to the Awards Office to discuss any potential impact.
If you are an International student, a decision of Pending Negative will likely have an impact on your immigration status, your eligibility to live in residence, and/or affect your continued coverage in the UHIP program. You must contact an advisor at the Global Opportunities and International Student Services Office to review your situation.
