COIN-OR is a repository of open source software for use in operations research. The organization awards the COIN-OR Cup prize yearly for the best use of, or contribution to, the software repository. (The “cup” is actually a souvenir coffee mug filled with chocolate coins. Yes really. They have a sense of humour.).  The winners this year were John Chinneck and ex-PhD students Mubashsharul Shafique and Laurence Smith, for the development of the CCGO global optimization software (see announcement). All of the chocolate coins have already mysteriously disappeared.
