Dr. Cristina Ruiz and Dr. Ala’a Al-Habashna, supervised by Prof. Wainer, obtained Best Dissertation Awards during SpringSim 2019 in Tucson, AZ. They are currently Postdoctoral Fellows at the Advanced real-time simulation lab < http://cell-devs.sce.carleton.ca/ars/ >.

Dr. Ruiz obtained the Best DEVS PhD Dissertation Award.  Her Thesis is entitled “A framework to study the resilience of organizations: a case study of a nuclear emergency plan”. Her thesis was in co-tutelle with University of Valladolid, Spain, co-supervised by Adolfo López-Paredes. She also obtained Carleton University Senate Medal for Outstanding Graduate Work–Ph.D. Level- in 2018.

Dr. Ala’a Al-Habashna obtained an Honorable Mention. His Thesis is on “Quality of Experience-Aware Progressive Video Caching and Adaptive Device-to-Device Video Streaming for Cellular Networks with High User Density”. He was nominated to Carleton University Senate Medal for Outstanding Graduate Work–Ph.D. Level- in 2018.
