Iryna Borshchova obtained her Ph.D. in the area of vision-based navigation for rotary-wing Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS). She is currently employed by the NRC’s Flight Research Lab to conduct research in the area of Detect and Avoid (DAA), a critical area for beyond visual line of sight operations of RPAS. Being a member of RTCA, ASTM, and EUROCAE, Dr. Borshchova works proactively towards the challenges that manufacturers and operators need to have addressed, in order to realize the broader economic benefits of RPAS. Besides DAA, her research interests include the development of statistical models of Canadian airspaces, discrete-event supervisory control in autonomous systems, tracking, and sensor data fusion.
