SOMA is a Health Symposium for the Afro–Caribbean Black community in Ottawa to celebrate Black History Month 2025. This full day event will include presentations and interactive activities from keynote speakers and health leaders from within the Ottawa community that engage the audience on different perspectives of ACB health; in particular the body (soma), mind and spirit implications of health within the Black community. All students and community members are welcome to come for free to enjoy the discussions, entertainment, ACB cultural foods, and prizes. What to Expect! (subject to change)

Registration and Attendees’ arrival at 9:45

10:00 Introductions and Land Acknowledgement followed by our series of speakers:
10:15 – 10:50: Halima Ali
11:00 – 11:35: Dr. Amos Buh
11:45 – 12:20: Alya Moore

12:30 -1:00 Breakout sessions – both offer a distinct and unique experience so participants can choose between:
– Grounding Breathing session led by Alya
– Panel Discussion: Youth Community Leaders Spotlight

At 1:00pm we will meet back up at Tory360 before heading to Teraanga Commons for a free Lunch and Networking!

The accessibility icon toolkit was created in partnership and consultation with the Paul Menton Centre to provide indicators to allow students to navigate events more effectively.
