Getting Started at Carleton FAQ
The first few weeks of university is filled with lots of exciting and new opportunities but sometimes it difficult to know exactly where to go for support. The Student Experience Office along with our Campus Partners have put together this helpful FAQ section to help answer some common inquiries from incoming students.
- I'm not sure if I'm on the right track to graduate, who do I talk to?

The Academic Advising Centre is the best place to guide you through your academic audit and ensure you are on track to graduate. To get in contact with them, fill out their Academic Advising Request Form or email them at academicadvising@carleton.ca.
- If you are an engineering student, you should reach out to EngAcadSupport@carleton.ca
- If you are a Bachelor of Commerce student contact bcom@sprott.carleton.ca

- Where do I find academic support?

The Centre for Student Academic Support provides a wealth of services for writing and learning support. They also offer Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) where you can attend weekly workshops and offices hours as well as mock exams which are run by their facilitators.
- How do I get involved at Carleton?

There are many different opportunities to get involved on campus, whether it be with a club or volunteering! The Student Experience Office and the Carleton University Students Association are a great first place to look for volunteer and job opportunities at Carleton. Want to get involved with a club or looking to start your own? Check out cusaclubs.ca to find your home away from home on campus!
- I am having an issue with a classmate, where can I get help to resolve it?

Ombuds Services is an independent office at Carleton that helps students find clarity on issues and explore your options in situations of conflict on and off campus. To get in contact with them, you can fill out an Appointment Request form or email them at ombuds@carleton.ca
- Where are the best places to look for housing?

Finding your home away from home may be daunting but our very own Housing and Residence Life Services have created a tool guide to aid you in your search, tips and tricks for first time renters and finding roommates! Not sure where to look first on your search for housing? Check out these Facebook groups that have been proven useful for many of our current students!
- Where can I find multi-cultural grocery stores in Ottawa?

There are many groceries stores in Ottawa and the Carleton University Student Association service centre, RISE, has created a fantastic list of Multi-Cultural Grocery Stores and restaurants in the Ottawa area. Check out their list to find what you are looking for!
- Are there any places to eat on Campus?

There are many places at Carleton to go grab a bite to eat. Whether it is grabbing a coffee before class, or some food during your study break, there are a variety of options across campus for you. Check out Dining Services, to find a list of places and their locations at Carleton.
- How does the bus system work?

OC Transpo, Ottawa’s public transportation system, can get you to and from anywhere in the city. There are some great apps that you can download on your phone, to help you map out your route and get you from point A to point B.
- Where do I look to get involved in Ottawa?
